The principal wing of the former State Savings Bank at Castlemaine was erected in 1919. The architects were Godfrey and Spowers. The attached residential section of the building dates from 1862 and was originally the government sub-treasury. The 1919 w ing is unusual in conception and is evocative of several of the later buildings erected by the bank in the 1920s and 1930s.
